A magical setting
At the Malviès bridge near Capestang Languedoc Roussillon you will find “Le Pourquoi Pas”. Situated beside the Canal du Midi, a Unesco World Heritage Site, this former hostel was a resting place catering for the boatmen and their horses in centuries gone-by. The location is enchanting and instantly striking.
Crossing the little bridge by car you will find a dedicated parking area, and see white barges moored to the banks, dazzling in the midday sun. The property is surrounded by green vines and branches laden with fruit that extend out of sight to the Mediterranean. There are olive trees, an organic garden producing vegetables for our guests, green plants and flowers and an area to relax with hammocks, deckchairs and umbrellas.
On the north side of the house, the plane trees stretch their branches to the clear blue sky. They provide a welcome shade during the summer heat. In the background lie the Cevennes mountains and the Caroux and Espinouse peaks.
Then there are the waters of the mysterious Canal du Midi, where, from April to October silent barges travel up and down much to the enjoyment of tourists and observers.
